George D. Devitt Mansion

The superb George D. Devitt Mansion, erected on South Oakland Avenue at the Viaduct circa 1909, was touted as one of the best large and modern homes after completion in the City. Devitt became Superintendent of a blast furnace under Perkins and Company in Sharpsville, later becoming Chief Clerk for the Shenango Furnace Company. The residence was built in the Colonial Revival Asymmetrical subtype. The home featured Palladian windows, a decorative cornice with dentils, a sweeping, highly ornamented porch, and a left-justified window bay. Due to the construction materials of the home (stone first floor, wood-sided upper floors) one may notice a little Tudor flavor.
