Step back in time and rediscover the bustling shopping district that once made downtown Sharon the commercial heart of the Shenango Valley.
Join local historian Taylor Galaska, President of the Sharon Historical Society and author of Lost Department Stores of Sharon, Pennsylvania, for a guided walking tour exploring the stores that shaped the shopping experiences of generations. Discover how downtown Sharon became a vibrant commercial hub, hear the stories behind its iconic retailers, and reflect on the enduring spirit of a city that continues to evolve while honoring its remarkable past.
From elegant department stores and family-owned businesses to neighborhood favorites and long-forgotten storefronts, you'll uncover the fascinating history of the merchants who built downtown Sharon into a thriving retail destination. Along the way, you'll hear stories of holiday shopping traditions, remarkable entrepreneurs, architectural treasures, and the everyday experiences that made downtown the place to be.
Whether you remember these beloved businesses firsthand or are discovering them for the first time, this leisurely walking tour offers a nostalgic and engaging look at Sharon's rich commercial heritage.
Comfortable walking shoes are recommended. Space is limited, and advance registration is required.
Each Retail Ramble historic walking tour will be approximately 1-1.5 hours long over a 1-mile route on flat, sometimes uneven terrain, along East and West State Streets between South Dock Street and North Water Avenue. Photographers encouraged to capture the historic architecture!
Three identical sessions will begin at 10:00 am, 12:00 pm/Noon, and 2:00 pm on Saturday, July 25, 2026. These require an RSVP in advance; $10 per person. Space is limited. The Retail Ramble starting point will be in front of the former Willson’s furniture store (near Chestnut Street), 98 East State Street, Sharon, PA 16146.
Parking may be found in the City of Sharon/Primary Health Network parking garage, several lots nearby, on-street parking, and the massive parking lot at Sharon City Centre (plaza where Reyers was located). All parking is FREE.
