Youngstown State University: From YoCo to YSU by Donna M. DeBlasio and Martha I. Pallante (128 pages, paperback, 6.5 x 9.25")
“Youngstown State University: From YoCo to YSU” is a visual and historical exploration of Youngstown State University's evolution over the past century. The book traces the institution’s transformation from its modest beginnings as a YMCA law school in 1908 to its current status as a comprehensive public university. Through a rich collection of photographs and narratives, the authors illustrate how the university’s physical campus, academic programs, and community engagement have expanded and diversified in tandem with the changing demographics of the Mahoning Valley. The book highlights key milestones, including the transition from Youngstown Association School to Youngstown Institute of Technology, then to Youngstown College, and finally to Youngstown State University. It also emphasizes the institution’s role in shaping the region’s cultural and educational landscape. See full description and details below.

The Campus History Series
As Youngstown State University prepares to celebrate its centennial anniversary in 2008, this book is a reflection on its history and heritage. Starting as a YMCA law school in 1908, the institution that became Youngstown State University is now a major and vital force in the community and the region. The images collected here illustrate the transformation of the institution from a storefront operation in the downtown area, to classroom space in former mansions, to a full-blown 21st-century campus. As the community itself became more diverse, the institution that it spawned followed suit as did its student body, faculty, staff, and programs.
