Buhl Mansion brings back Christmas tours
SHARON, Pa. (WKBN) – The holidays are here, which means it’s time to deck the halls at Buhl Mansion.
The Sharon Historical Society, in conjunction with Buhl Mansion Guesthouse & Spa, is bringing back its hour-long Buhl Mansion guided Christmas tours this week.
Taylor Galaska, guesthouse supervisor and marketing manager, says the tour could be your family’s next holiday tradition.
“This could be a part of a family’s tradition–to come here, to the Buhl Mansion, with their kids, their grandkids, grandparents–everyone can come together, learn about something in the community that makes us unique, and enjoy a festive space,” Galaska said.
The 1891 mansion was once home to Frank H. Buhl, a multimillionaire steel magnate who was known as the “Father of the Industrial Shenango Valley.”
“We’ll have an hour-long guided tour of the mansion and the history of the Buhl Family,” Galaska said. “And then you’ll come inside and see all the Christmas decorations, which are absolutely beautiful.”
Sandy Superak, event manager and decorator, brought the historic mansion to life with her display this year–and she said you can expect to see something new every season.
“I do this whole place in three days,” Superak said. “I’m fast. I don’t plan. I just start with one thing and go from there.”
Superak, who’s been working for Buhl Mansion owner Donna Winner since 1987, says her favorite piece is the Christmas tree, which is adorned with Swarovski-crystal-lined Godiva ornaments from New York City.
“Every ornament, to me, has a memory of where I purchased it from, what it means, what I was doing,” Superak added. “They’re priceless to me. They’re probably about thirty years old.”
Tours will begin at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Thursdays, Nov. 20, Dec. 4, and 18 and Jan. 8, as well as at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. on Sundays, Sundays, Nov. 23, Dec. 7, 14 and 21 and Jan. 4.
“Our tours two years ago sold out every time we added more tickets, so we are excited to host this event again with more dates to showcase the new Christmas decorations,” Galaska added.
Tickets are $20 and must be purchased in advance. They can be purchased on the Buhl Mansion website, in person at Buhl Mansion, 422 East State St., daily from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m., excluding Sundays and Wednesdays, or by phone at (724) 346-3046.
All proceeds will go towards the Sharon Historical Society’s Wallis Mansion History Center, the organization’s new headquarters and museum.
