New book event highlights Sharon’s substantial retail past

SHARON, Pa. (WKBN) – The Sharon Historical Society announced a special event to celebrate the release of The Lost Department Stores of Sharon, Pennsylvania, a new book by Taylor Galaska, local historian, author, and president of the Board of Directors of the Sharon Historical Society.

At 6 p.m. on Thursday, the book event will take place at the Sharon Municipal Building, City Council Chambers on West Connelly Boulevard. A lecture by Galaska will take place from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. on East Connelly Boulevard at the Municipal building. Seating is limited; however, it is open to the public, so they recommend arriving early.

Admission to the event is free, and light refreshments will be served. Those in attendance can hear from Galaska directly in a Q&A session.

The book recalls the rise and fall of department stores in Sharon, such as Reyers and The Sharon Store, highlighting how retail landmarks impacted locals' lives. With two years' worth of research, Galaska provides rare photos, vintage advertising, and firsthand accounts from locals.

Signed copies of the book will be available for purchase, and all the proceeds will benefit the Sharon Historical Society.

"The Lost Department Stores of Sharon, Pennsylvania," will be for sale before and after the lecture, or online at SharonHistoricalSociety.com.
